Autism Treatment
Removing barriers to successful treatment of your ASD child
After 15 years’ experience, inertia and the ‘barrier to cure’ it imposes is an essential healing concept that I would like to share with you to help facilitate as far as possible the successful treatment of your ASD child.
Inertia is the resistance of any physical object to a change in its state of motion or rest. From the perspective of Autism and health generally, inertia can be thought of as the cumulative weight of factors preventing or providing resistance to the bodies’ efforts at maintaining homeostasis or balance. The weight of inertia in this instance is coming from diet choices, environment and lifestyle factors plus genetic inheritance.
A great example and one probably dear to most of our hearts is the humble massage. Is there any more reliable method of treating an aching, facilitated muscle than by applying some heat and mechanical force to change its state from being ‘tight’ and ‘rod’ like to being soft and supple? The heat and mechanical force being the required stimulus or support for the muscle to allow it to return to normal function by removing the ‘block’ that was the thixotropic [1] change in muscle viscosity.
Similarly, in the context of Autism treatment- what level of support do we need to provide the body that allows for a shift in inertia from a state of dis-ease to a state of balance? What do we need to remove from your child’s diet, lifestyle and environment and/or add in to diet, lifestyle and environment; and at what dose and frequency needed to overcome the inertia that has set in?
By way of analogy: roll starting a car with a flat battery, can provide for some varied scenarios. If the car is parked on a decline all that is needed is to release the handbrake, get up to speed, put it in second and drop the clutch. The car will then cough and splutter and perhaps back fire a couple of times before returning to normal function.
However, if the car is parked on the flat then a number of individuals are going to be needed pushing to overcome the inertia of the car until it gets up to speed and the clutch can be dropped. How much more support are we going to need provide the driver if the car is parked on an incline or if there are bricks in front of the front tyres?
The body with its inherent wisdom knows what to do, how to do and when to do what is required for normal healthy function – if in doubt, just take yourself back to before disease manifested and reflect on how you got there? In short, provide the body with what it requires, remove what it does not and watch it cough, splutter and backfire a bit and off it will go!
Another analogy for further explanation: no one will argue that PMS is a hormonally mediated change in brain chemistry leading to a common set of symptoms; physical, mental and emotional. These symptoms go away after a couple of days when the hormonal ‘driver’ of brain chemistry rebalances. What happens to ASD kids when the ‘drivers’ of their altered brain chemistry are addressed in clinic? Their symptoms are also addressed and go away. Note here that the symptoms are the end result, not the problem itself. Focusing treatment (including biomed treatments) solely on symptoms will not and can never lead to lasting results.
Understand, that disease can only manifest when the appropriate conditions are present to do so and the bodies’ resources are overwhelmed, i.e. when the perfect storm of genetic inheritance, a toxic environmental burden plus poor dietary and lifestyle habits combine to block normal biochemical function, we have the conditions appropriate for some level of catastrophe; in this case, the expression of a set of symptoms grouped together under the banner of ASD.
Furthermore, the body seeks to maintain a biochemical balance (homeostasis) as a default setting, its every movement being towards health and harmony. And it happily does so, as long as its efforts are not being blocked in some way; it retains the capacity to absorb nutrients via a functional gastrointestinal system; and the appropriate nutrients are being provided in the diet.
Your child’s healing journey starts immediately the foundations of good health are acknowledged and supported. For example:
- Hydration and circulation are restored
- pH and other biochemistry is normalised
- Organ function is supported
- Digestion and elimination processes are optimised
- The drivers of disease are identified and removed.

[1] One of the many marvels of the body is the Thixotropic property of many of its fluids. Certain gels or fluids that are thick (viscous) under normal conditions, flow (become thin, less viscous) over time when shaken, agitated, or otherwise stressed. They then take a fixed time to return to a more viscous state. Examples of thixotropic fluids include the synovial fluid found in joints between some bones, the ground substance (extracellular fluid) in the human body, as is blood and semen.
