Be Patient or QUIT!
Okay, so this comes out of the gate feeling a little harsh but let me explain. We are all on our own journeys. Some of us trying to overcome illness and chronic disease, some of us want to lose a few (or more than a few) extra kilos. Whatever we are trying to do sometimes it can be extremely hard to stay focused, stay on track and stay motivated to keep going
The idea of eating healthy or doing some exercise is a practice that doesn’t always give us the kind of feedback we want in the timeframe we want it. Maybe this month you only lost ½ a kilogram, or maybe you have had a flare up of your symptoms, whatever has happened you somehow feel as though you have come up short and not much has progressed for you. Perhaps now you are feeling frustrated, let down and completely unmotivated. You may think “What’s the point of working on my health if I can’t see any results and it’s not going the way I want it to?
We will all feel this way on our journey at some point, and we are likely to feel that way more than once. There will be set backs, there will be times when things seem to have not changed, there will be doubt and there will be disappointment but BE PATIENT! Progress is not always forward, sometimes you take a step back or sideways.
When we drive a car at night we can only see as far as the headlights in front of us light the way, but we don’t think that the road we are on won’t take us to our destination, we don’t stop the car and wait until morning, we keep driving. Similarly just because we can’t see or objectively feel that any change or progress is happening for us doesn’t mean we are not moving towards our goals.
The only way our progress stops is if we stop. Let’s be sensible though, we may not always be able to do everything the way we want in the perfect setting and the perfect time, but by setting our intentions that our health is important will help to keep us moving in the right directions.
So when I say BE PATIENT or QUIT, what I’m really saying is be patient because quitting is not an option. By doing nothing, nothing changes. We all know the saying “Knowledge is power”, but knowledge is really only “potential power” putting that knowledge into action in the best way we can as consistently as we can, will steer us towards health, vitality and longevity.
